More Info

METRO Chicago is a live music venue that opened in 1982 and is owned by Joe Shanahan. The METRO Chicago building was originally a Swedish Community Center when it was built in 1927. However, when Shanahan first came across the METRO Chicago building in the 1970s, it had by then been converted into a jazz and folk club. In July of 1982, Shanahan took over the fourth floor of the club and opened SmartBar. SmartBar became such a big success that Shanahan eventually took over the main floors of the building and re-opened it as METRO Chicago.

METRO Chicago is dedicated to bringing emerging artists from local, regional and national levels to the Windy City. METRO Chicago has had a reputation of bringing many of the nation’s up and coming performers to the forefront of the entertainment scene. Billy Idol, Depeche Mode, O.M.D. and New Order are just some of the now legendary acts who featured on the METRO Chicago schedule in its first year. In the years that followed, METRO Chicago has also welcomed the likes of Bob Dylan, Moby, Fall Out Boy, James Brown and Prince.
