CHICAGO, IL (MARCH 2017) – IV Solution has opened its first Ketamine Center of Chicago, the first private facility to offer clinically proven intravenous ketamine therapies for the treatment of depression, chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and other ailments. Located at 712 North Dearborn Street in Downtown Chicago, the state-of-the-art medical facility in River North offers customized therapy in a private, confidential setting with anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and skilled staff onsite.

Supported by many clinical studies and hailed as “the most significant advancement in mental health in half a century,” ketamine has been proven to be up to 80 percent effective in relieving treatment resistant depression and is also effective in treating chronic pain, fibromyalgia, obsessive compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other ailments.

Ketamine has been used successfully to treat depression for more than 10 years. Originally developed in the 1960’s as an anesthetic drug, ketamine has a very safe profile when administered in low doses for depression by interacting with GABA cell receptors to remap and stimulate nerve elements for long-term relief of clinical depression.

As opposed to oral antidepressant medications which may only be effective in about 60 percent of patients, take up to a month or more to be effective, and come with many undesirable side effects, ketamine is effective within minutes to hours with minimal side effects. Most patients have immediate improvement after their first or second infusion and feel very relaxed and free while they are receiving the infusion. In fact, some patients, with the guidance of their physician or mental health professional, may be able to decrease or even eliminate other medications as treatment progresses.

After the first series of six 45-minute infusions for depression over a period of two weeks, patients typically report immediate relief of symptoms for many weeks to months, at which time booster infusions may be scheduled. Patients can inquire directly for the treatment or can be referred by their physician or mental health professional.

“We have meticulously assembled a top notch team of registered nurses with ketamine infusion experience, along with licensed therapists and technicians who care for patients and collaborate with their primary care physician, specialist, or mental health professional to optimize treatment and ensure continuity of care,” said Chief Medical Officer at IV Solution, Dr. Bal Nandra who received his training from the University of Chicago Hospitals Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care.

“We are confident in this treatment option and strive to get the word out to those suffering in search of alternative therapies,” continued Dr. Nandra who brings 20 years of clinical experience, his knowledge of ketamine infusion therapy and outpatient care to Ketamine Centers of Chicago.
