Celebrating the Band That Guaranteed the ‘90s Would Not Suck
Great Moments in Vinyl plays tribute to Nirvana

Chicago, IL: In honor of what would have been Kurt Cobain’s 50th birthday, Great Moments in Vinyl brings the music of Nirvana to Martyrs’ on March 23, 2017.

Most rock bands need time to grow into having an influence. Nirvana exploded into our collective cultural consciousness with their national debut, Nevermind. Clearly the time was ripe. It was the era of hair metal bands, when groups such as Poison and Def Leppard were king. But although MTV may have been influencing popular taste, plenty of music fans weren’t having it. Enter Nirvana and their emotionally raw approach to rock and roll.

“The album that guaranteed the ‘90s would not suck.”
Rolling Stone, 04/27/11

“Music by, for, and about a whole new group of young people who had been overlooked, ignored,
or condescended to."
Come As You Are: The Story of Nirvana, Michael Azzerrad - 1993

"There is a pre-Nirvana and post-Nirvana record business. Nevermind showed that this wasn't
some alternative thing happening off in a corner, and then back to reality. This is reality."
Gary Gersh, Geffen Records executive who signed Nirvana

Great Moments in Vinyl captures the vicious joy of two of Nirvana’s best-loved albums, Nevermind and MTV Unplugged in New York, by performing them in their entirety accompanied by stories about the songs and the musicians that created them.

Venue: Martyrs’ (3855 N. Lincoln Ave., Chicago, IL 60613)
Showtime: 9:00 PM (Doors: 7:00 PM)
