Cocktails and Cure-alls: An Evening with the Violet Hour at the International Museum of Surgical Science
Have you ever wondered where cocktail bitters come from, or why we mix gin with tonic? There's not much difference between the tinctures and potions of old and the cocktails we enjoy today. Join us for this unique collaboration between the International Museum of Surgical Science and the Violet Hour as we indulge our curiosity while satisfying our palates! Guests are invited to enjoy three cocktails inspired by the Museum's collection and artfully mixed by the Violet Hour, a smell and touch station designed to give guests up-close and personal access to the unique and unusual ingredients involved, and a not-to-miss oppurtunity to explore our landmark Museum after-dark. A treat for the beverage aficionado and history buff alike! This event includes a short lecture on the history of apothecaries and medical herbalism, complimented by highlights from the Museum's own restored 19th Century Pharmacy. Please note: *Doors to the Museum will open for this event at 6:30pm (not earlier). *Please be sure to arrive at least 5 minutes prior to 7:00pm. *Tickets for this event are non-refundable *Information about parking and directions can be found at www.imss.org under Plan Your Visit The Violet Hour serves artisanal cocktails in the heart of Wicker Park.
